Pastor Steven Borst, Senior Pastor
Pastor Borst came to Immanuel as Sr. Pastor in September of 2008. He comes to us with experience as a church planter, campus pastor, conference speaker, published author, and university professor. Steven's passion is to help Christians discover authentic discipleship by responding to Jesus' call: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." (Matthew 16:24-25) You can contact Pastor Steven here.
Beth Vangsness, Director of Christian Outreach
Beth Vangsness is serving as Immanuel’s Director of Christian Outreach. Beth graduated from UC San Diego and Cal State Fullerton with a Master’s Degree in Counseling. After working with children who were victims of abuse and neglect early in her career she felt a special calling to work with kids in the foster care system. She also has a special affinity for those battling homelessness and substance abuse issues. Helping those who are struggling to see themselves as beloved children of a mighty God and loving Savior brings her great joy. She has been a community volunteer for 20+ years. She currently mentors an amazing young lady who is a former emancipated youth.
Jean Beck, Director of Christian Education
Jean Beck received her degree and certification as Director of Christian Education from Concordia St. Paul, MN in 2002 and has been at Immanuel since then. Before graduating she served as a Missionary/English teacher in Taiwan for 2 1/2 years. She feels called to teach and train others for service to Christ. Her greatest joy is hearing how God has used others in ministry and is blessed to be able to provide opportunities for that. Many people know her from her laughter and she is prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks to give the reason for the hope she has. (1 Peter 3:15). You can contact Jean here.
Pastor David Schilling, Visitation Pastor
If you think of Jesus in action, chances are you visualize him helping someone who’s ill, hurting or worse. Immanuel’s commitment to Jesus’ healing ministry extends to our shut-ins, aged, hospitalized and imprisoned. Our Stephens Ministers and Elders visit many of the above and Pastor David supplements those visits and more with his calls. He currently has about 30 people that receive monthly home visits and again that many who are seen on an as needed basis because of their ongoing health concerns. Both pastors make hospital visits and Pastor David is “Chaplain on Call” volunteer at two of our area hospitals. Although he is technically retired and part-time, when you ask, he’ll tell you: “If retirement means doing what you love, I am retired.” He also brings a lot of energy to our worship by assisting on Sunday mornings and enjoys preaching from time to time at Immanuel as well. You can contact Pastor David here.
